Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story movie debuted, establishing the animation giant as a major film company and introducing audiences to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the plot but leaving viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang
In the teaser shows Bonnie β who received Andy's toys when he left for college β receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.
Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
At the very least, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge attached to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
