The Princess of Wales's Annual Festive Carol Concert Honours Charity Helpers

Her Royal Highness has organised her annual Christmas carol concert at the iconic London venue, with guests including dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have supported their local areas.

The sizable congregation will enjoy a selection of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from stars like Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

Centred Around Kindness and Compassion

The central message of the concert, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.

Attending the event are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a tumour, and who founded an organisation, a support fund, to aid parents with a child with a terminal illness.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often quietly and unspoken, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an profound impact to the well-being of people," Her Royal Highness stated in a message before the festive gathering.

A Steady Comeback

The princess has been making her own gradual return to public life after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, recently giving her major oration since 2023, in which she reflected on recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Performance and Potential

Those coming to the Abbey will be entertained by young musicians backed by the charitable trust Future Talent, established in part by the late Duchess of Kent to increase availability of musical tuition.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who is a trumpet player and is from southwest Wales, has been helped by the charity, with funding assisting with instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "awesome" to be playing at the concert.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," she stated. She is now a student at the prestigious music academy, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to cultivate their performance abilities.

Generations Gathering

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who is a euphonium player, will also be at the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Attending the service will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will feature Saphia Turner, aged nine, honouree of a prize for youthful altruism, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to raise money for local food charities.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been festooned with custom-created holiday decorations, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

Taking to the stage will be recording artist Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a Cornish sea shanty group, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the icing on the cake for us."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be televised and shown on ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
